Discernment in Energy Work

We’re in a time where spiritual practices are often packaged and promoted quickly—symbols given freely, lineages blurred, privacy overlooked. And yet your ‘gut’ knows when something feels off. Our bodies can tighten. Our dreams may shift. We can leave sessions feeling more confused than clear.

It is not judgmental to ask questions. It is not paranoid to protect your field. Your energetic field is as sacred as your physical home—perhaps even more so, because it carries the imprints of your past lives, your ancestral memory, and your core life force.

Energy work is intimate. It moves in places words can’t reach. That intimacy demands consent.

And perhaps most importantly: no one has the right to access your energy without asking.

If you’ve ever felt someone “tuning into you” without permission, or leaving a session with more confusion than clarity, that’s your body’s wisdom speaking. Listen to it.

Checklist for choosing an energy practitioner:

  • Lineage: Can they name their teacher and how long they have been trained?

  • Presence: Do they hold space quietly and respectfully, or do they center themselves in the work?

  • Consent: Do they explain what they’re doing energetically, and physically, and ask before tuning in to you?

  • Privacy: Are sessions confidential and personal? Can they explain to you where your session notes/information is stored?

  • Integrity: Do they honor spiritual symbols and practices as sacred, or treat them as casual add-ons?

  • Confusion: Do they welcome questions or concerns and answer them with clarity and openness or leave you feeling confused or unsure of yourself?

Energetic boundary practice:

If you ever feel someone has entered your field without permission or bypassed your energetic boundaries, try this:

  1. Sit upright, feet on the ground (if you’re able).

  2. Visualize strong steel doors forming around your energetic body, front, back, above, and below. They close with a grounded finality.

  3. Now link your index fingers together (if you can) in a gentle circle and break the circle, symbolizing the chain or link being broken between that person and you. If you are physically unable, you can imagine this step in your mind’s eye instead.

  4. Breathe in deeply and affirm silently:
“My energy is mine. My field is sovereign. Only love and permission may pass through.”

Your field is sacred and only yours. No one enters without your explicit "yes."
