Honoring Origins & Commitments

Honouring Origins & Cultural Roots

Divination: My great-grandmother learned divination and healing practices from a Romani woman, passing down knowledge through the women in my family. The Romani people have faced centuries of displacement, systemic discrimination, and persecution, yet have preserved and shared their traditions in the face of adversity. I acknowledge these realities and aim to reference any mention of any Romani traditions with accuracy and respect, without claiming them as my own.

Energy Healing: I am trained in Usui Reiki, a Japanese energy healing system developed by Mikao Usui in the early 20th century. My training included not only the techniques, symbols and attunements, but also teachings about the historical and cultural context in which Reiki was created. I approach this work with the intention of honoring its Japanese roots, avoiding misrepresentation of its origins.

As part of my commitment to recognizing and supporting the communities and cultures connected to these traditions, I take a portion of my earnings from the services I provide each month and make fixed donations to the Toronto Roma Community Centre and the Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre in recognition of Mikao Usui. As my practice grows, and as I gain further seniority and certifications that may lead to changes in my rates, I commit to also increase these donation amounts to expand my support.

The Toronto Roma Community Centre serves the Romani community to build solidarity. They provide resource assistance for settlement, education, legal services, engage in outreach and advocacy to combat anti-Roma racism and Gypsy stereotypes, and celebrate their culture and shared history.

The Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre in Toronto promotes Japanese heritage through language, arts, history, and cultural programming. Founded in 1963, the Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre (JCCC) is a not-for-profit organization which celebrates the unique culture, history, and legacy of Japanese Canadians for the benefit of all Canadians.

I encourage you to explore these organizations, learn about the histories and cultures they represent, and consider how you can acknowledge and support the roots of the traditions that inspire any healing and divination work you may receive from Akashic Daughter.

Land Acknowledgement

I acknowledge that I, Bridgette, and Akashic Daughter, lives, works, and offers healing services in Toronto, Ontario, on the traditional territories of the Anishinaabe, Haudenosaunee, Wendat, and particularly the Mississaugas of the Credit. This region remains the home of many diverse Indigenous peoples and is covered by Treaty 13 and subsequent agreements.

I/Akashic Daughter recognizes that there is ongoing responsibility tied to these lands. I/we encourage you to visit native-land.ca to learn more about the Indigenous history and relationships connected to the spaces where you live, heal, and create.

To express my/our respect in a tangible way, I/we take a portion of Akashic Daughter earnings every month and make a fixed donation to Native Child and Family Services of Toronto, a multi-service agency founded by First Nations and Métis community members living in Toronto to support the wellbeing of Indigenous children and families living or staying in Toronto region.  Guided by the vision of providing culturally connected, land-based holistic services, and child & family wellbeing support to Section 35 rights holders living or staying in the urban setting of Toronto, their programming offers support across all quadrants of the medicine wheel, focused on strengthening and empowering families through all stages of life. As our practice expands, we aim to increase these contributions in step with my/our capacity to give.
